James E Watson & Co. has a rich history dating back to 1952 when it was founded by James E. Watson, a former Lockheed Martin test pilot. Initially operating from his home in Marietta, GA, the company began stocking and shipping GAST Manufacturing products. In 1965, James E Watson & Co. moved to its current location on Doran Avenue.

In 1970, the company was sold to Joseph C. Johnson, who had a working relationship with the Michigan-based Gast family and regularly hosted them for dinner at his home in Marietta. Under Johnson's ownership, James E Watson & Co. continued to expand its product offerings, adding the Liquiflo Chemical Processing Pumps line in 1972 and the Busch Manufacturing product line in 1975.

Throughout the years, James E Watson & Co. has evolved and adapted to meet the needs of its customers in the Atlanta area and beyond. In 2010, RJ Berger and Ashley Williams became majority owners of the company, with Berger bringing his aviation background and expertise to further strengthen the business.

In 2023, Atlas Copco acquired the assets of James E Watson & Co., recognizing its expertise as a distributor of vacuum equipment and service solutions. Today, James E Watson & Co. continues to provide personalized service, maintenance, free technical support, and same-day shipping on all in-stock items.
